A Sestina poem that pushes the reader to live on and live their life with all its battles. |
What is this life on which we live Pressed and packed we carry forth Burdened down by our plight, we fight Unhindered by our gangly attempts We muster strength and lead the challenge Into battle to live or die, but not be defeated. Go forth and meet the battle, there will be no defeat Each day will mark the passage of time, time to live Together all of you will face the challenge With your allies and your family, go forth Set your strategy and make every attempt To rise up from the dead and rot, another day to fight. With every part of your soul you will meet this fight Your life depends upon it, without heart there is defeat Stay true and valiant in all that your attempts Hold dear your loved ones and press them all to live For in the end you will all carry forth Your name, on weathered plank will rise forth And stand the test of time; that is the challenge. But until then, meet each challenge With ruthless urgency and boldly fight Into the night and long into next day forth Keep your head about you or you will meet defeat Flex your muscles and win the cause; that must live Beyond today, in all things make every attempt. And so my fellow warrior, with every brutal attempt We rise and meet the challenge Until weโre almost spent, then push to live And battle on within this very fight There is no other answer; there is no ultimate defeat We must meet the cause and push it forth. Long into our lives, each day calls it forth We stand and we deliver with all our mighty attempts. There is no surrender; there is no defeat Letโs make it to the end of this challenge Our fists bloody in the fight But remember this, my warrior strong, you will live. Into the battle go forth and ultimately live In all your valiant attempts you will rise and fight. There is no one ever defeated who takes on the ultimate challenge. This is a sestina. It is 39 lines. It follows a pattern of repetition that is defined within the first stanza. Stanza 1..A.B.C.D.E.F. Stanza 2..F.A.E.B.D.C. Stanza 3..C.F.D.A.B.E. Stanza 4..E.C.B.F.A.D. Stanza 5..D.E.A.C.F.B. Stanza 6..B.D.F.E.C.A. The final stanza is only three lines but follows this pattern: Line 1..B..A Line 2..D..C Line 3..F..E This one was brutal, but I did it!!!!
