Joan Rivers Dead At 81

Hollywood is mourning a huge loss today. Talk show host, comedian Joan Rivers has died at 81 in New York at 1:17 p.m. Eastern Time.

Rivers (neeJoan Alexandra Rosenburgh ) was born on June 8, 1933. She got her first break on the Tonight Show, hosted by Johnny Carson in 1965.

River's style of stand-up comedy was basically poking fun of herself and celebrities.

Rivers was best known for co-hosting E! Television's Fashion Police, and for starring with her daughter Melissa on "Joan and Melissa : Joan Knows Best?

From 1986-89, Rivers occupied the center square in The Hollywood Squares game show, hosted by John Davidson.

In 1989, Rivers got her own talk show called The Joan Rivers Show The show ran for five years and won her a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host in 1990

Rivers was also best known for hosting with her daughter the pre-awards show for the Academy Awards, starting in 1995. The previous year, Joan and Melissa first hosted the pre-awards show for The Golden Globes

River's funeral is set for this coming Sunday.
