The ladies of LEER.

On the way to Poughkeepsie they kicked up a fuss
causing stir and ado on an old Greyhound bus.
They were, Lady Executives eager to Read,
and they’d heard of a book store to meet every need.

(Thus they called themselves LEER just to shorten it so;
they used four of five letters--the “to” would lay low.
They were proud of their acronym, proud as could be
as the lady executives read thoroughly.)

On the way they were arguing ‘bout Shades of Gray
which is why the commotion on Greyhound that day.
Yet it wasn’t that bad for the ladies of LEER--
the bus driver looked back then continued to steer.)

And in fact the good driver had talked with his spouse
who had wanted to join LEER to escape the house.
She was eager to read, an executive too--
yet the driver remained leery of such ado.

So they got to Poughkeepsie with plenty of sun;
all the ladies joined hands as a symbol of one.
And the goal of their journey had plenty of books;
the quaint sign on the front read, Pat’s Pages and Nooks.

As the ladies went in the bus driver did muse;
for true insights of LEER he was sure getting clues.
He had no doubt that reading was passion, no less,
since he saw that a backpack was standard LEER dress.

So he looked as the last gal went through the front door;
then he took out his smart phone and Googled some more.
He relaxed all along while intently aware,
looking up from his phone on occasion to stare.

While the driver was waiting in ragged bus seat,
he heard hunger declare that he needed to eat.
(He was fairly good-looking yet quite pencil-thin;
  he had beautiful blue eyes plus a gracious grin.)

As he waited forever, the driver grew weak;
he got out of the bus in a pure state of pique.
He was ready to twist himself taut with a shout
when he saw the executive ladies come out.

As they boarded the bus he received a surprise
when he felt a fierce burn from the LEER member’s eyes.
Thus he learned a good lesson, it so would appear:
never leer at the ladies who constitute LEER.
