Time to have a Party

I look at the calendar and I see it is August;
time to have a party before the summer is over.
I look at the sun and I see it is moving southward;
time to have a party out in the back yard.

I will invite lots of friends and neighbors;
the gathering will be a blast.
I’ll grill hot dogs and burgers, and corn in foil;
and all will enjoy their repast.

I set out the lawn chairs and tables for the doing;
time to have a party before the summer slips away.
I wave goodbye to July and the fourth with all its dazzle;
time to have a party where we all enjoy fresh air!

We’ll have our food and then we’ll throw the Frisbee,
or play corn-hole with pure delight.
We’ll raise our ice-filled glasses, and wet our whistles,
as evening transforms into night.

I go out in the morning and I see the lawn is dewy;
time to have a party before the summer is no more.
I watch the sun set earlier and sigh among the shadows;
time to have a party with good camaraderie!

I will see Ellie-Anna, and Joe and Cadence,
and other children here and there.
The neighborhood will be a warm come-together,
and these days that is pretty rare.

(I look in the back and I see the remnants of the party;
  time to reminisce I guess because the party’s over.
  I put the grill back in the garage and fold up all the tables;
  time to think how autumn will be ready to arrive.)
