My granddaughter's stuffed animal; beloved and abused. Written for a prompt.
PUPPY DOG PATHOS
Here I lay crumpled, my face in the dirt.
She's forgotten me again and it hurts.
She knows I prefer to snuggle with her,
In her comfy, warm, bed with its comforter.
I'm soggy and wet my fur is a mess.
Preferred the tomato soup I confess.
In the bowl I plopped, yes she was upset.
My nose was plugged, but no drowning just yet.
Sydney cried and paced by the washer loud,
I emerged so clean, no dryer allowed.
This girl hugged me so tight it warmed my heart.
I felt great; my stuffing not torn apart.
A spider is crawling all over me;
It's creepy, annoying, and itchy.
I wish I could bark and alert my plight.
Hey Syd, I'm out here. Please make this all right.
I forgive your desertion of me overnight.
McDonald's was dark, scary, no delight.
You've always rescued me and been contrite.
I'm a silent companion; friendship tight.
You're just five-years old, lugging me around.
But I too like to see what you have found.
Remember the fast boat ride? We both squealed.
And the merry-go-round where I just kneeled?
We're supposed to be inside happy, giggling.
I miss you Syd. Come get me. I am wriggling.
