A “How To” Guide for Winning Arguments with your Wife. Day 22 (Form: End Rhyme)
Some Disassembly Required

I think back on our wedding day
gazing in eyes, deep blue …
Mesmerized, I can still recall
saying the words, “I do.”

It wasn’t until late that night
we were, at last, alone.
She whispered, “That’s the last choice you’ll
be making on your own.”

There’s something in male D.N.A.
that makes us want to fight.
Four words can re-sequence my genes:
“I’ve a headache tonight.”

She says that raising up my voice
makes me look like a grouch
except when I apologize
as I yell from the couch.

I’ve attempted to use logic;
she hears it as a curse.
Seems men and women don’t reside
in the same universe.

I read The Art of Compromise;
I sought the middle ground.
The “middle’s” over on her side,
at least that’s what I’ve found.

The strategy that works the best
I’ve learned, year after year,
is to always have the final word;
she lets me say, “Yes, dear!”
