Oh, Little Mermaid

Oh, little mermaid, under the sea
As a child I recall you beckoned to me.

I wondered at how you could swim then fly,
over the waves and up to the sky.

I wanted you to stay under the water,
beside your father as his loving daughter.

But you saw a ship and fell in love
deciding to live on the dry land above.

Even though human legs caused you great pain,
You chose to leave family and on the land, remain.

But now I can rewrite the story for me,
and make you a burlesque queen dancing under the sea.
