Why can the damage never be erased...? |
I remember the saying 'the damage is done' and never quite understood why damage could never be erased, because people say sorry and we forgive. Don't we? We move on from the pain caused, and take the next day, as that's important. But this damage used to seem metaphorical, like a wound to an ego or a bruise to someone's appearance. It wasn't until I grew that I realized, and I knew what this damage is. It's funny... don't we always think damage must be done by someone else? That they will sink so low to cause us pain? And you're probably wondering 'not this again...' But the damage is not done by them. The damage is done by ourselves... Because somewhere along the line we realized physical pain is better than heartbreak, and a chest ache that won't go, because he dumped you for someone else. We learned that a blade is better than facing our fears, or a dream we've just made, destroyed in front of our eyes. That the hatred for yourself, could be taken out on your body. No, the damage was caused by ourselves. We cut ourselves until we couldn't feel... And now the marks remain, the damage is done. |
