Chapter 2, bringing families together |
A few years later when Earlin was sixteen and Lily was eight their parents, John and Louella decided to go on a second honey moon to Hawaii. Over the years Earlin and William had shared a romance that produced one child, a boy named A.J. Two nights prior to John and Louella leaving they, once again, invited William over for dinner. A very special dinner was being prepared because this was a special occasion. Earlin and Louella watched Lily and A.J. playing in the living room while William and John stepped out onto the terrace. “I know we haven’t done things in the proper order,” William said, “but I would like to ask your permission in taking Earlin’s hand in marriage.” John, expecting this said, “You two are finally doing the right thing.” Inside he was thrilled that his best friend of many years has finally come to him about making an honest woman of his daughter, even though she was only sixteen. “I know we haven’t done things in the proper order and you probably think I’m to old for her but I do love her. I always have and always will.” His mind wandering, William couldn’t help but think back to the day when they first met under the stars. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky, not a breeze could be felt. The sun had just gone down leaving behind a rainbow of colors ranging from pink to orange. Sneaking out her window, Earlin saw William standing shirtless by the lake and thinking how wonderful he looked. His short dark hair, smooth skin looking like glitter had been poured on it down to his waist where his shorts started. The shorts were white and almost see through in the right lighting. As she watched him he turned his face toward her where a slow smile spread across his face. She looked stunning in her skimpy bikini just like he knew she would. Her parents were appalled when they first saw it but then decided it was okay because it was the latest fashion, although they still didn’t really approve. As she shimmied down the drain pipe her firm round buttocks barely jiggled. She slid down the pipe with ease as if experienced carried her. Swiftly through the grass she moved her perky breasts bouncing with ease. He had chosen the bikini with just this sight in mind and here he was able to experience it. She glided into his waiting arms which held her tight against him. He knew that this was a forbidden love but couldn’t resist her especially when she seemingly longed for him as much as he for her. It was there at the water’s edge he took her for the first time. They made wild, passionate love… “William. William. Are you listening to me? Will…” “What? Oh. What, John?” Asked William. John said, “I said, Things happen. You two should’ve waited before having a child. It is good to know that you are taking responsibility and that you made the decision to marry her instead of leaving. I’ll grant you permission to marry on the condition that you will treat her with respect and love all of your lives.” And with that said the two men walked back into the house where the women were waiting anxiously for the results. After looking at his wife and then to his daughter and back to Louella he finally said, “I think there is a wedding to be planned.” Earlin jumped up and grabbed him in a bear hug and through her tears of happiness she said, “Thanks dad!” Then running to William who had stopped just inside the sliding glass door she threw her arms around him and he held her like he had never held her before. Both were ecstatic with their engagement. “Have you two set a date yet?” Louella asked knowing they probably had because Earlin was just like her and that means being thorough in every little detail before speaking with someone especially with something this important. “Yes. We want to get married on the eighteenth of May” whispered Earlin. “That’s short notice. Are you sure you want it that soon,” asked Louella?” “Yes. We want it as close to your wedding anniversary as possible. We know that you need to get rest up after your trip and that is why we’re putting it off until the weekend,” said William. “John, can you believe this? We now have two things to celebrate! I’m so excited I barely know what to do next,” said Louella almost squealing in all her excitement. “Come Earlin let’s go work on getting your wedding planned.” No, Mom, you need to finish packing for your trip first. We have plenty of time to work on the wedding details besides I’ve already started and… well you don’t want to miss your trip. With that said Louella jumped up from the couch and Earlin pulled herself away from William and they moved to the bedroom to pack for the trip to Hawaii. As the women chattered about the wedding the guys sat back and laughed. They heard things like, “Now, Mom, don’t get carried away.” and things like “Mom, you’re doing it again.” “Women are such funny creatures” whispered John who didn’t want to take a chance of being heard, as unlikely as that would be with all the chattering going on in the next room. It seemed to take forever but the suitcases were packed, the overnight bag filled with toiletries and carryon items. The women came stumbling out of the room with the luggage dragging behind them and the sight of them made the men laugh hysterically because not only had they been packing but apparently they had had some kind of wild party in there. There were all kinds of feathers in their hair. “Just what was going on in there, Louella, and will there be room for us to sleep tonight?” asked John gasping for air. William, stifled his laughter, hauled the luggage out to the car and put it in the trunk. What had he gotten himself into? he wasn’t sure but the one thing he did know is that he couldn’t be any happier than he was right that moment. They all went to bed thrilled with the news of John’s best friend finally becoming an actual member of the family in a few weeks’ time. |
