for the Cramp

The Door

Connie's uncle Roger left her a charming cottage in England. They had to make arrangements and sell their home to start their new life.

As they traveled through the English countryside they knew this would be a exciting adventure.

Approaching the large iron gate they stopped the car and kissed.  Once at the gate the call button could be pushed by the drivers side.  The guard came on and then pushed the button to let them in.

It was a 2 story Victorian style home with 10 rooms a balcony and an attic. There was a winding road leading to the front of the house with a circle driveway. The entire residence and near by property was enclosed in an 8 ft brick wall.

It's hard to explain the charm of their new home.  All the flowers and shade trees.  Even the birds seemed to be greeting them.

The sun seemed to be brighter than normal; almost blinding.  They took the sunshine as a sign of good fortune.  There even appeared to be a rainbow forming an archway over their new home.

The moving truck pulled up shortly after they did.  The movers did most of the work but the personal belongings were done by Connie. Tony went on to work and left Connie  with a big kiss and hug to last until he came home.

She had a few things she wanted to put in the attic; a small velvet jewelry box from her mom and some pictures. Once in the attic she found an old chair and sat down to survey the room.

Like most attics there was a lot of clutter.  Some toys, crib and a red and white rocking horse and a small desk with the word beware carved on it.

Seeing that made her a bit unnerved but she continued investigating the attic. Behind the rocking horse was a small locked door.    She moved the horse and tried the lock which wouldn't open. She then banged on it with her shoe. It broke off and the door flew open.  A  bright glowing light blinded her.  It made her dizzy and she stumbled as she was being sucked inside. A strong cold wind slammed the door shut.

Tony came home and couldn't find Connie anywhere. After searching the house, he ventured to the attic. There he found the things Connie was carrying when he left for work. He looked around, saw the door and opened it carefully. The light inside blinded him as well.
He yelled for Connie with no response. He spotted a small mirror and wrapped his handkerchief around it. He carefully opened the door and stuck the mirror inside. There was a large stain glass window with Connie encased in the glass.

He fell down on his knees and cried.
