The Philosopher

Soaring high above those around you
You see the world in clarity
Searching mountain top to ocean basin
Of its great fallacies

Here is what you see:
Struggle of nations
Strife over worldly things
Empty promises of happiness
Chaining you down

You, a trapped falcon
Wanting to break the chains
Believing you can escape
To solitude and freedom

Oh unhappy philosopher,
Here is what I see:
The sun is waiting to melt your wings of Icarus
Busy examining the world below
You fail to look above

Under the sun
People find solace in lies
And that is their escape
