The People

There's an old man with his grandson
He drinks his coffee while the boy plays
The couple stands waiting for their food
She rests her head gently on his shoulder
A young girl tells her grandparents
All about a boy who she thinks she loves

Then there's the man who waits for you
Even when all his hope is gone

The old men sit and talk together
About the old days and people who are gone
The young girls whisper and laugh
At the young boys trying to be cool
A child plays with his new toy
And a baby cries out to be fed

Then there's the man who waits for you
Even when all his hope is gone

There's a lady alone at a table
Wears her broken heart on her sleeve
The young man on the phone walking by
Is angry at the woman he loves
The people they all come and go
They keep going on with their lives

Then there's the man who waits for you
Even when all his hope is gone
