Combat boots
The soles encrusted
With dried pig shit
Laced up tight
Tied no doubt
With double knots
The leather
Polished like glass
The style
Screaming of vengeance
I really never saw who
Was wearing them
Truthfully I just assumed
I only heard the words
Hey you there, kid
I turned and wham
Like a bag of stones
Oh how did I go down
I have since remained
Way down here
Eternally looking up
Still wondering
What the fuck?
I must confess
Via conjecture
Bullshit really
That I, an innocent kid was
Kicked in the teeth by God
And believe me when I say
That it hurt like hell
That man, God
Wearing those size twelve combat boots
Said what needed to be said
And then he went on his way
No doubt to brutalize others
Kicking some in the teeth
Some right in the groin
Maybe even a few in the ass
Stomping on necks
Is what he does for sport
Blasphemy and the truth
Just deal with it
I’d like to think
That I truly understood
What he said
And more importantly
What he meant
But I know in reality
Those things
I understood least of all
And I have since spent

Living as I have
Such contemplation
Is of course ridiculous
Just like this
A poem about being
Kicked in the teeth by God
But nonetheless
Here I still am
Doing what I must
All while on the ground
Looking up
Wondering
What the fuck?
