In the footsteps of Saint Bernadette


She was just an uneducated young country girl
In a small village in another part of the big world
Her health was bad but still she kept on going

She hid in a grotto to be protected from a storm
In the grotto was a beautiful light shining bright
A pretty lady dressed in blue and white appeared

A rose bush at the lady's feet and she carried a rosary
Bernadette took out her rosary and knelt in awe of her
The lady spoke to her and prayed with her that day

The lady formed the sign of the cross making the girl cry
Soon a Golden cloud came and the pretty lady went away
Bernadette went home and told the story about the lady

No one would believe her story but more visions came
Soon many would follow to the grotto to see the miracles
The lady told her to dig in the dirt and drink of the water

Soon the water became a spring and cured many illnesses
Soon thousands would come to see this glorious place
It took a little girl to show faith without a hint of a doubt

The lady wanted a chapel build on this holy ground
Bernadette had a responsibility to see that it was done
Some people apposed at first but then it came to pass

Many followed in Bernadette's footsteps out of faith
Those tiny little feet walking showed so many the way
All of her life she walked in the light of faith and love

She thought Mary appeared to her because she wasn't smart
Mary found a child of God with a pure and blessed heart
