A very incomplete idea for a horror story introduction. Thoughts? |
The early hours of morning, when the grass is misted and sparkling, you have to squint to see through the slight fog and lingering darkness, and the air is crisp and chilling, is an excellent time to think. I, myself, enjoy walking aimlessly through small towns nearby, during this time every morning. If you’ve never experienced the feeling of walking with no particular reason, to no particular place, I highly recommend it. It’s a great time to meet people, troubled people. In these crucial hours, before the world fully awakens and resumes its redundant tasks, the only reasons for walking around are uneasiness, worry, or unhappiness. I suppose you’re wondering which category I fit into. It’s a good question, a clever one, so I’ll grace you with an answer: the reason I walk the streets so early is the intent, the need, really, to kill. Now you’re probably rereading that sentence. Did your eyes grow larger? Did the tingling of your spine cause you to shudder? Were you surprised? If so, that’s your first mistake. You have never met me. You know nothing about me, except that I like to walk in the mornings, which, for all you know, could have very well been a lie. Why then, when finding out I’m a killer, were you surprised? I’ll tell you, it’s because, deep down, you believe all people to be good. Until proved wrong, you have an innate trust towards people. If I’m correct, which I always am, you have one of three opinions on the matter. Either you are impossibly clueless and believe all people are good, you believe all people have good intentions and that some just make bad choices, or you believe that there are truly evil people, but you never suspect it of people you meet and prefer to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Any one of these is a disgusting display of optimism and will someday be your downfall. My advice? Lose it. People are evil. At the heart of every human being is a collection of the things you’d never suspect. The only difference between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ people is a varying level of self-control. Admit it; there have been times when you've wanted to act on feelings of hate or the need to control. The difference between you and me? I embrace it, whereas you refuse to let yourself. If you don’t believe me, stop reading, right now. I haven’t the time to waste on naïve people who continue to foolishly believe in silly things such as hope and perfect people. Still here? You made the correct choice, Reader. People are gilded. What appears as gold on the outside is, in reality, nothing but a lesser metal within. If there is one thing that people are good at, it is appearing ideal. Anything that isn’t ‘normal’ or ‘perfect’ is covered masterfully with a thin layer of gold leaf. Think of one person you consider flawless, your hero. If you were to know everything there is to know about that person, you’d be glad you’re yourself. That’s the central flaw of human kind, deceit. You might consider yourself an honest person and be offended that I have the audacity to call you deceitful. Have you ever hidden something or covered who you are in an attempt to appear ‘perfect,’ ‘strong,’ or ‘normal’? If yes, than you have lied through your actions, refusing to admit to yourself or others that you make mistakes and are faced with less than ideal circumstances, that your life isn’t as perfect as you’d like everyone to believe, is the worst form of dishonesty. It’s a ferocious circle, the more you appear perfect, the more insecure others feel. The less confident they are with their own life, the more gold paint they apply. The more flawless they appear, the more you strive to cover the real you. The entire human race is nothing more than hurt and imperfection covered in a reflective layer of fake smiles, cheery dispositions, and an unspoken fear of anyone ever discovering the truth. In particular, I enjoy choosing victims that display such traits. I have no problem with each person, many of them I actually find rather agreeable; I’m merely making a point. I intend to make a difference with this statement against humanity. While right now people, including yourself, are quite ignorant, someday my deeds will be regarded as valiant. These carefully selected individuals are a sacrifice for my greatness. |
