Short on the Night Shift

walking thru the weeds
in my dandelion dream
ladybugs wave and casually
drift away -
that rabbit i've seen before
pauses from his breakfast
and asks me
'have you seen alice?'
before i can reply
i spot a preying mantis on the prowl
and hasten to hide -
then some kid tries to cook me
with his magnifying glass, so,
i pull out my handy proton laser and zap a tattoo
across his forehead -
pausing to watch a cocoon open
i get gobbled by a frog
and wake up croaking
