star light, star bright

I wish
as the first star of the sky shines
a pinprick against black satin

for the peace
of having done
instead of having still to do

for freedom
from grief and the guilt
I feel in my heart
although my head knows it
was never my fault

for love

for lust to light a fire
in my body and mind
so that I’m willing to become
more
I'm too often caught in
intellectual distance

I know it’s too much
to ask of the stars
yet, I wish
