This is was part of an English project. I really liked it, so I'm sharing it with you. |
What did happen to my dream? Did it soar away, Like a free bird? Or did it crawl, Like a sloth, Into a corner, Just to rot. Dream deferred, Is lost forever. Dream deferred, Will happen never. In a place, Where forgotten dreams go. In a place, Where things don't grow. My dream, Deferred, Was a caged-in-bird, That game I lost, My dreams the cost, To a place, Where forgotten dreams go. Alone and forgotten, Deferred dreams are. Zoomed past, So fast, One doesn't know how far. Deferred dreams go, To a place, Where all dreams go to waste. Waste that smells, Of candy canes and lemon drops. In a field, Where kids once played, Couples kissed, And where one could fall in love. Before the dream, Was deferred. When it was still lively, Like music in the air. Now music is lost, With the hope, With the deferred dream. Just like the deferred dream, Music is in a place, Where it goes to waste, In the rain, You should retain, Where your deferred dream goes. Waste that smells, Of candy canes and lemon drops. In a field, Where kids danced, Women sang, And men played music. Before the dream, Before it came to be deferred, The music was lively, Now it is lost too. Just like the deferred dream, In a place, Where it goes to waste. In your mind, You will find. |
