Just one rose knows your name
Part of the game
One that I am sure that you
Had no idea you were playing
And if you did
Would have it made any difference.

Such a rose is in a distant meadow
Out beyond a darkening forest
Out beyond all that we are comfortable with
There are no creatures where it exist
There is no true sun and no empty sky
There is only a realm of absolutes.

A nothing that is vast
A nothing that is wide
A nothing that could never be
Understood by any human mind
Who planted such a rose is unknown
Who tends to it is quite unclear.

Any other rose would have long since
Withered up and died a horrible death
Any other rose would have long since
Returned to the source of its creation
Leaving such an empty place emptier
Leaving such a world even colder.

We all must be part of a story
That we can live with and within
We are all part of the game
The rules are the same
Yet we all play in vastly different ways.

Reality holds little precedence
Causality bleeds insignificance
We live then we become carcasses
Former shells of all that others hold close
Like the rose, once we are picked
Once we are taken from the cold
No longer do we grow.

No longer can we be saved
Spared fates cruel hand
Just one rose knows your name
Just as only one knows mine
Separate absolutes await us all
The god of chance and the god of fate
Are one and the same.

Did they plant the seed that spawned
Such a beautiful expression of what life is
And what life can be in such a world
Of ever-increasing darkness
The answer is not so clear…
