The Monster I Know

The monster I know has no soul
He follows me everywhere I go
Patiently waiting for me to let my guard down
Ready with daggers in hand
He speaks no words
and can break me with his eyes
The monster I know has taken control of my life
I'm consumed by his presence and cannot escape
He tries to tell me my predetermined fate
I hide from him behind my smile
Trying not to break
He looks at me with a smile-less grin
I wonder how it all began
When he got so close that I was under his control
The monster I know is trying hard
Patiently waiting for me to let down my guard
I keep him out with a smile-less grin
While trying to contain the monster within
