In the land of Sangritara, the Bloodland, there governs five great kingdoms-the Crescent, Lotus, Jade, Coral, and Sol Kingdom. At least, that’s what history says, but all that the inhabitants of Sangritara know is what remains of these civilizations. The Shadow King appeared long ago, before memory, to destroy every kingdom of the world, leaving fragments of once grand cultures and peoples behind in his wrath. Now, just the Sol Kingdom remains, and it is only a matter of time before the Shadow King appears again with his monstrous army to wipe it out as well. In the middle of a burnt forest, a young woman wakes in pain and sticky with blood, without memory of what might have happened, or even who she is. Resigned to her fate, with demonic yellow eyes advancing on her, she decides to drown in the serpentine river before her. That is when her savior appears-a beautiful man glowing like a candle in the darkness, offering her hope. He takes her with him, even giving her a name-Elleos, which means ‘to have mercy’. Elleos vows to serve him, and secretly desires his love. When she meets all the mesmerizing inhabitants of his castle, Elleos finds that her new life, and new love, is a deadly one. Her beloved master already has a mistress-one who would kill any that might replace her. A deceptively charming man with his own agenda vies for her affection, and a terrifying jester that inspires everything except laughter becomes obsessed with her. In an effort to please her lord, Elleos drinks from a hidden silver lake, undergoing a vast transformation that could ultimately destroy her. Can she survive the serpent's nest she has entered and discover who her master really is? Can she save both herself and him as well? Eventually, Elleos is forced to make a choice-will she remain loyal to the man who bears the darkest secret of all, who might not even have the ability to love-the man whom everyone calls the Shadow King, destroyer of the world, or will she take sides with her lost sister, a Hunter devoted to killing the Shadow King? Hate corrupts. But does Love have the power to redeem? |
