On growing up.
I wear the wrong suit most every day

I wear Hearts when I should wear Spades

To shovel up Diamonds to wear to the Clubs

But it seems that I don’t know Jack.

The smiling nurse now says “Get real,”

The world has lost its taste and feel

There’s dirt in my mouth and grass in my teeth

For the life of me, I can’t get back

Sweetheart goodbyes make for awkward hellos

We’re two steps behind the travelling show

They’re poor and fierce and wild and grand

So what do we have that they lack?

My skirt was too short but now it’s too long

There’s too many ways that you could be wrong

“Don’t question,” She cooes, “That’s just how it is,”

But flowers don’t grow on a track.
