A poem I wrote while my baby daughter was taking her afternoon nap.
Little boy Freddie was going out in the sun
with family & friends the day was sure to be fun
They’d packed a picnic full of surprises
the anticipation and excitement rises and rises
The bat and ball was placed in the car
a Frisbee, a football were we going far?
Next in line were a bucket & spade
and a parasol to keep us cool in the shade.
A windbreaker followed does that mean the beach?
Freddie was shouting and screaming at the top of his speech!
Mum got a map, so we knew where to go
Sister Ellie, the sun cream to avoid a red glow.
The neighbour was given our spare set of keys
to care for our pet rabbits, Twinkle & Breeze.
Freddie was asked to get into his seat
Strapped in all ready, tidy & neat.
Then Ellie sat beside him and gave him a smile
and said are you ready? We’ll be here a while.
Daddy & Mummy went back inside
to bring out the rest of the things along for the ride.
The picnic food would be blowing Mum’s diet.
But the biggest surprise was being kept very quiet.
Little Freddie unaware did not have a clue
of what was to come, how about you?
The last things our parents placed on the roof rack
were two suitcases of clothes all ready and packed.
Daddy was driving so got into his seat,
Mummy beside him with Google map sheet.
Our friends were already on their way.
We were off on holiday!
