I use to
I was once
Long before
Another time
A different place
Same familiar shape
Same beating heart
Such a logical mind
Much younger
Devoid of age
Lacking experiences
Without understanding
Nonetheless
I tried
For a time
I got buy
For a time
I truly survived
But of course
Without a doubt
Chained to absolute certainty
I knew that I was doomed
Set up to fail
Destruction has always been
King of such a condemned castle
No one, most of all me
Was ever meant to live inside
Only darkness can reside
Only nothing can find a home
Where no one else could ever hope
Most of all a boy turned man like me
I have always been lacking the tools
That should have been given to me
That should have been expressed
Dealing with all that has been
Has become an impossible sin
Long since vacant of the emotions
Needed to care as I should
But truth be told
Regardless of my faults
And despite all that I confess
I am with and without
I care least of all
I am not afraid
I am unconcerned
I use to
I once was
Another time
A different place
No longer is that the case
Fading to blackness
As crudely introduced chemicals
Foreign to my being work through
Quickly I am becoming unquantifiably numb
Approaching the end of my run
Life and death should be
Much more discernible then this
But like everything else
I fear that is not how it is…
