Chapter One The car was swerving down the icy roads, through the endlessly falling snow. She couldn’t see, even with the windshield wipers swishing back and forth and back. She looked over at me, and held my hand. “Hold on!” she said in complete terror, yet there was some sort of calmness about her. I never experienced anything like this. Excitement was never something I knew. Although the suspense of what was going to happen to us occurred through my mind, this excitement was not enjoyable. It was scary. I heard a loud screeching sound, and I could feel the car slipping underneath me. My hand held my mother’s tighter. The other gripped the handle on the roof of the car. Crash. Poomf. What just happened? Chapter Two My heart had stopped. I looked around, trying to find my mom. The sounds of the paramedic trucks faded in, louder and louder. “Mom?” I tried to say, but I couldn’t. There was something in my face. XXX (how should the airbag go away?) “How’re you feeling, miss?” A deep voice said. All I could see was a dark blur. “I can’t speak.” I tried to communicate. I lifted up my hand to my mouth to symbolize. Blood. “Where’s my mom?” I looked frantically around, moving my head in all directions. “Hoooold on. It’s okay. She is being sent to the hospital right now.” He consoled me. He helped me out of the car, putting an oxygen mask on me. I limped toward the flashing lights which looked like an ambulance. I needed a band aid. Actually, I needed a few. Chapter Three I liked that man. The man who helped me out of the car, into the ambulance, now into the hospital. I wanted to see my mom. I wanted my voice to come back. “How are you holding up?” said the man. I waved my hand over my mouth and shook my head in frustration. “Okay, I see. Don’t worry we will have you fixed up in no time. My name is Greg by the way. I’m an emergency nurse. Can you hear me?” I nodded. I began to look around again for my mom. “Your mother is doing fine.” He comforted. I could tell he was lying, or he didn’t know. |
