Inspired by a dear friend who gave me a moment of magic today
Dark fingers darted like shadows over the ivory keys. The sound spread out from him, resonating deeply throughout the room. Like a river, it flowed across them, soaking their ears in a delicate sound. Their bodies almost hummed with the contented notes of sickly sweet music. But still his hands played, giving each a gift, a moment of neutrality between the panics of the day. The graceful tones danced in the air like skaters on an ice rink, occasionally making an elegant twist or turn but never faltering and never stopping.
The sound balanced them and expanded to fill the space. Even the smallest corner was brimming with it and complete in perfection. It left them breathless and ensured that even if they opened their mouths only nothingness would pour out. It wasn't just their outer voices that ceased. In their heads the screams of agony died out, replaced only with sharp beauty that moved tears to their glazed eyes.
Oblivious, he continued, drowning them in him. It was like his soul was flying through them, as though they were mere inches away from his deepest part. He poured it into the music and they felt it, moved with it, swaying slightly back and forth like small children. They were flying with him, through the silence of a thousand years, or maybe seconds. All the while, his presence remained strong. Never wavering, it picked them up and moved them forward.
He fragmented with the last note; the broken key left unused. He faded to nothing as they picked up the conversation, admiring him only in their minds. He left without a word.
