Chit chat before work
The Man maneuvers the car in position to allow him and his partner to have a good view of the after hours club's entrance.
"Did you watch the New Year ball fall?" He asks.
"Fucked right through it," she says.
"That was a jolly way to welcome in the New Year."
"Yes it was."
"Wish I could’ve did the same."
"What did you two do?"
"We were at a party."
"Did you swear to a resolution?"
"Yeah, again, I promised to stop smoking."
"You know that is not going to happen."
"It might this year."
"When you’re dead."
"Did you make a resolution?"
"No. I got tired of lying to myself, each year, a long time ago."
"Yeah, maybe, I should do the same."
"Then you’ll come up with some other resolution to avoid."
"Like what?"
"When are you and Susie getting married?"
"There is no need for that to be a resolution, because we’re happy as a shacking couple."
"Did you eat the good luck meal for a prosperous New Year?" She asks.
"They had plenty of black-eyed peas, collar greens, ham and turkey at the party."
"Sounds tasty."
"Did you have a meal for prosperity?"
"Marge cooked a plate of bacon and scramble eggs."
"Might help," he says in a joking manner.
She smiles.
A Fellow leaves the club and gets their attention. "That’s him," she says as she lowers her window and gets a pistol from its hiding place. The Man powers the car to cruise at a slow pace beside the Fellow that makes him look at the car and then attempts to run, but he is shot dead.
The car speeds away. END
