What Has Man Become

What has man become
That when troubles fill his head
He withholds every penny
Can’t spare a piece of bread

Whilst suffering surrounds him
A fog without escape
He shuts off his beacon
And lets the boat crash through the cape

What has man become
When a lucky star arrives
That he holds it for himself
He hides it as a prize

But when he sees the suffering
Of the lonely souls
He hides his face from truth
And spits in every bowl

What has man become
So selfish and cruel
That he will feast on roasted beef
While his fellowman lives off gruel

What has man become
That life is just a game
And these words will make no difference
Because he isn’t the one to blame
