Run Away From the Big, Bad Wolves Brook ran through the forest. The moon reflected in the lake, the darkness and the resentment of the light added to the intense gloom. She ran for her life as the wolves chased her, the prey. She could hear their paws on the grass, their snarls echoing against the black. Brook stumbled into a clearing. The moon was visible and gave an eerie glow. She screamed. In the clearing laid a body, a dead body. A corpse lying in the mud and the grass, a corpse covered in thick crimson blood. Rats ran and bats screeched, and the wolves grew closer… She ran again, ignoring the twisted feeling in her stomach. This nightmare was overwhelmingly insane. The wolves continued the chase, intent on catching their prey- this girl. The life of fear, ebbing away with each bound the pack took. They cornered her in another clearing, the one with a river flowing, unfazed by the chase. The alpha wolf neared closer, snarling. A wolf with brown fur and sharp, gleaming teeth. Brook's heart beat faster with the fear and confusion- the body, the chase, the forest- why was she there? She watched in horror as two grey wolves dragged the corpse into the clearing and the pack ripped it apart. Looking away, the sound of tearing flesh made her feel ill. She threw up as she heard them feast on the corpse. Hands shaking and breath trembling, Brook turned her head. The alpha stared at her, snarling. Sickly crimson blood dripped and the sharp white teeth gleamed. Sudden howling broke the intense silence. The wolves turned, ignoring Brook, and ran. Brook ran again, right into the road, not seeing the car. It hit her before she could move. The car continued driving down the highway, oblivious of the girl lying dead in the middle of the road. The wolves had won, Brook was dead. The wolves glanced at her dead body from where they were stood on the top of the hill. The body was oozing the blood they so adored. Three new black-furred wolves stood by the alpha, and the alpha looked at the body, their prey. It was now meat. The wolves descended... |
