I was stuck inside a cafe one day and this popped into my head. |
Sitting on the beach Cassandra and her little baby, Ava watched the ocean roll in and out, as it did so you could hear the pebbles hitting each other as the ocean took the pebbles away for a new life. Cassandra smiled and then stared at Ava who was lying in her arms, her bright blue eyes shone with happiness and innocence. Cassandra felt that she could start a fresh, a fresh life with her child, with new friends and a new job, her old life can seized to exist and for once Cassandra would not have to worry about looking over her shoulder. She could stop worrying about being pulled into a world that she no longer wanted to be a part of it. The sky was turning into a deep orange as the sunset over the horizon, and Cassandra knew it was time for her to go home. She could smell the saltiness that lingered in the air, she could almost taste what she smelt, and she sighed and slowly made her way back to the car. She was sitting in the driver’s seat of her little Suzuki, Jimny. She turnt the key, and placed the car into first gear, she slowly took the handbrake of and pulled out into the road. She was driving along just under 30 mph when silver Porsche appeared out of nowhere and was tailgating her. She slowly moved to the side to let the Porsche past her, she could not be bothered to cause any arguments today. On the long stretch of road by the seafront, the silver Porsche over took her, but as it did the passengers window was down and she, turnt her head to the silver car, when she looked at the driver he was staring back at her. His eyes were filled with a dark entity, his face emotionless, yet, quite attractive. His skin was a pale colour, but not in a way to say he was ill but quite the opposite, the pale colour suited him. His hair was a dark brown and styled in a faux-hawk messy look, the guy look so masculine, and strong. Come on Ava your basing all that on his face get a grip she thought to herself. His face was square and had a prominent square jaw, which added to the attractiveness of the guy in the car. She turned her head to the road and from her peripheral vision, she saw the silver car slow down, she thought he was going to go back behind her however; he slowed down because he was just about to miss his turning. ‘Well, Ava that was quite scary. But he was very yummy.’ Ava gurgled at Cassandra’s little comment. Laying in bed Cassandra could not stop thinking about the guy she saw in that silver Porsche, his dark brown eyes, his face seemed to be engraved by stone, yet he seemed so real. She laid staring up at the ceiling listening to all the life that was outside, the crickets chirping, the rustle from the bushes, the wind gently blowing against the windows. Smiling to her self Cassandra fell straight to sleep. Cassandra stood staring at the figure in front of her, who appeared out of no where at her house in her bedroom. She stared around her house and she saw nothing that resemble reality, she knew she was in a dream. She looked at the dark figure and into the dark brown eyes, realising it is the same guy she saw early in the day, she smiled a little, and studied the face of this mysterious guy. It was such a peaceful dream, she could no longer her the crickets in her garden, the wind had stop and the silence had swept across, all she could her was her own breathing pattern, that she was sure had sped up from seeing the figure. However, whilst he was standing there staring at her, she wonder to herself aimlessly, why she couldn’t hear his breathing pattern. She moved her hand out to touch the face of this figure but his hand came out of his trouser’s pocket and grabbed her hand, firmly but gently. As she looked down she realised he was wearing a pair of leather driving gloves. She chuckled to herself, ‘But if not then why are you here?’ she asked studying the gentle movement of his hand as he placed her hand back to her. He never spoke, he just turned away and walked over to the window. She sighed and then he spoke. ‘You and Ava are in trouble.’ His voice was cold and quite blunt, like he didn’t want to be in this dream, Cassandra wasn’t even smiling any more as she turnt towards the the door and began to walk out. However as she got to the door frame her body couldn’t move her legs felt paralysed. ‘No-No-No’ she tried with all her might to move her legs but they were fixed, ‘Cassandra, wake up God damn it!!!’ there was a loud growl from the dark figure.. Cassandra woke up her head spinning, her legs feeling heavy but she could hear Ava crying she tumbled out of bed and got to the door frame, Please work, she thought to herself, but she had already stepped over the threshold so when, she open the door to Ava’s room she saw a dark figure standing over the cot. ‘Hey!’ Cassandra roared, the dark figure turned round, she could not see his face, but she could see his dark red eyes that glowed with anger, then he chuckled he reached his hand up and flicked his fingers out, Cassandra flew out of the room and landed on the floor. She felt a surge of energy erupted from her body, she stood up and this energy built up into her hands and she pushed this surged through her hands, a fuzzy, transparent motion cam out of her hands and made a large thud noise as it knocked down the door. ‘Get away from my baby!!!’ this time she was growling and her eyes changed from the dark green emeralds that they were originally and began to fade into a dark grey mist that covered her whole eye. Outside there was a commotion, but Cassandra didn’t worry about that all she worried about was this figure in her room, ‘Powers of the night, powers of the day, take this beast away from me, move him north, move him east, move him south move him west, take this beast away from me...’ she chanted and the beast turnt to her, he growned and feel to the floor with his hands around his stomach, after a few moments the body began to disappear. Casssandra stared at the disappearing beast, ‘Take him away from me now...’ the final line of the chant and the beast she went, vanished into the realm of magic and mayhem. Cassandra did not care to think where she sent him only the fact he was gone, ‘Oh baby you okay? Come here...’ she picked up her baby who now was settling, she seemed to have no physical marks on her body but she does not know what he was doing. A single tear fell from Cassandra’s face as she held Ava into her arms. She cradled her as she walked down the stairs as she strolled down the stairs she flicked all the lights on. She walked into the living and cradled Ava in her arms, then the door bell rang. Cassandra looked at the clock that stood on the stereo cupboard, ‘Who the hell is this at 3 in the morning?’ she said to herself, she held Ava close to her chest, and slowly made her way to the door. She took a deep breath slowly opened the door, she could see three people standing on her main door. The girl was standing in front closest to the door and two guys stood behind her. Cassandra put a fake smile on her face and then opened the final door, the girl looked straight up to Cassandra who wasn’t wearing very much. ‘Yes may I help you?’ Cassandra asked polite and innocent, the girl wore, a dark denim pair of jeans and flat ballet pumps in black, she wore a black tank top and a leather jacket over the top her hair was a golden sand colour that sat nicely on the top of her shoulders. Her skin was pale, and her eyes were a deep amber colour. The girl looked up at Cassandra and smiled cheekily, ‘I don’t know how to say this but you and your baby are in trouble...’ Cassandra’s smile had disappeared from her face and she slightly tilted Ava away from the strangest. ‘We mean you and Ava no harm but in fact the opposite. We are here to protect you-‘ but Cassandra didn’t let the young girl finish the door was slammed in her face and Cassandra disappeared into the house. She turnt the lights of and went back upstairs to the study, she didn’t turn any of the lights on and stood watching the the three people stand there on the step. She looked towards the road and she saw the silver Porsche, sitting there waiting. Cassandra was mystified by him, then he, the mysterious man got out of the car and stood facing the house. He looked directly up to the window where Cassandra was standing at, and he just stood there staring at her, as did she. Her eyes were fixated on this man, but she watched the three people that was outside her house walk up to the silver car and mysterious guy. She smiled to herself as the Porsche pulled out of the Close like a bat out of hell. She sighed and decided to have Ava sleep with her that night. Cassandra was only a sleep for a little while when her alarm went off, playing bed of roses by Bon Jon Jovi, she sighed and tried to bury her head under the pillows but she could still here it. ‘I’m going.. .’ she mumbled and she turned the alarm of. She checked on Ava, who was still fast asleep in her cot that was in her mum’s bedroom, she smiled to herself and made her way to the bathroom. She was just putting her trousers on when Ava started crying, Cassandra smiled and walked over to the cot, she slowly cradled Ava and made her way into the kitchen, she started to sort out her feed for the morning. As she burping Ava she heard her house phone ring, taking Ava into her arms, she grabbed the cordless phone that sat on the side table next to the sofa. ‘Hello.’ She mumbled as Ava was becoming restless in her arms, ‘Yes I can do an evening shift Leah. I will be there at seven...Alright then goodbye sweetie.’ Cassandra ended the call and moved Ava to her play pen that sat in the middle of the living room. She grabbed the phone and started to dial in some numbers, ‘Hey Emma. Could I ask a huge favour?’ Cassandra chuckled and started to play with a loose bit of thread that hanged from her trousers. ‘Could you babysit from six till one this evening, please?....’ waiting for a response on the other end of the phone she pointed to the end of the thread and little piece of lightning zapped the hanging piece of thread, ‘Yes that is great Emma, thank you.’ She returned the phone to its base and watched Ava play with her toys, she smiled and then walked over to the bookcase and grabbed a huge book that rested there. She flipped to the middle of the book, ‘protection spells...’ she grumbled to herself and read the ingredients out aloud. ‘Chase...we have to do something. They are at risk. Last night he was there. He got to Ava, we need to see if he put the energy inside her, before it is too late.’ A squeaky voice argued standing in the living eyeing the three boys that sat there watching the football on the television set, realised she wasn’t getting any response, she bent over and turnt the television of. ‘Rosa, don’t be such a spoil spoilt, turning the footie back on. We can’t do anything till this evening . We are not protected by the Uv...’ Jason said as he got up and went to press the button on the television to turn it on, Rosa hissed and Jason growled, ‘Don’t get stroppy with me.’ Chase stood up and walked over to Rosa, and placed a hand on her shoulder, ‘She is working tonight at Walkers. I will go and introduce myself and try to work my way in. But Ava is being babysat tonight so one of you is going have to keep an eye on her.’ Chase answered his voice sounding blunt but very cool with the situation, however, Rosa was getting very worried. ‘Guys, don’t you care that if he turns Ava then we can not stop him. Ava or Cassandra if they get turned they will kill humanity.’ Rosa argued getting frustrated and angry that the boys are being immature. But no-one answered and Chase quickly bent down and turned the television on, ‘Why do I bother?’ she hissed and walked out of the living into her bedroom. ‘What’s he problem?’ drake asked as he grabbed his beer and knocked it back in one, ‘No but seriously, guys we have to stop this.’ Chase bluntly said and the two boys looked at chase and nodded in agreement, ‘But till tonight, we drink and watch football!’ he shouted in a very masculine voice. ‘Alright Leah.’ Cassandra shouted to Leah over the music, and the clanking of bottles. Cassandra worked for a little cocktail bar in Bexhill town. ‘What you mate?’ she asked a blonde guy who had really feminine features, he turned to her and answered, ‘Can I have a cosmopolitan, two beers, a glass of red and you?’ Cassandra flinched when he said the last bit she smiled and just let it slide she was used to guys hitting on her, ‘Sorry I am spoken for.’ The guy laughed and then bent forward closer to Cassandra, ‘Yeh right.’ She walked away to make the drinks, after a few minutes she returned with a try of drinks, ‘that’s eighteen pound twenty please.’ He held out a twenty pound not and she took it out of his hand, she smiled, ‘keep the change babe.’ He took the tray of drinks and she watched him leave, she sighed as Leah approached her. ‘Watch him. I had dealing with him before you started working here....’ Cassandra smiled and started to flex her fingers, ‘I will be careful...yes sir....’ she asked the next customer. Time was getting on and Cassandra had a cigarette break due she looked at her watch it was only eleven o’clock and, it was already slowing down only three more hours she thought to herself, ‘Hey Cass! Can I join you?’ Leah asked grabbing her fags from near the till, Cassandra nodded as they headed out back for a fag. ‘So what is the deal with you Cass? Your smart intellectual being and you work in a place like this?’ Leah asked as she handed the lighter back to Cassandra, who looked at her with a weary look, ‘I don’t mean to pry. I am sorry I should keep my mouth shut.’ Leah announced and took another drag on a cigarette, Cassandra smiled, ‘No it is fine. Well, when I graduated from University I moved back to London to be with my parents. However, one night we were broken into and my family, my mum, dad and sister were killed. I was raped then left for dead...however, I survived and pregnant. A few weeks after the event I was receiving threats and hate mail so I left and moved here. That is it, sort of.’ Leah’s faced went from a joking playful expression to a shocked and sympathetic look, ‘But hey I am fine. I am safe here.’ Cassandra noted, she realised that her break was over, and she stood up putting the cigarette out, ‘Back to work.’ They walked back in to the bar and it was picking up again, ‘can I help you?’ another member of staff asked the blonde guy that Cassandra served earlier in the evening, ‘I want her to serve me.’ Pointing to Cassandra. Cassandra smiled trying to make it look like she is honoured; she nodded to the barmaid who started to serve someone else. ‘Same again?’ Cassandra asked staring at this guy who had way to much drink, yet most of it was split down himself. ‘Yeh and you on my dick...’ he said, staring at Cassandra’s breast. ‘Excuse me.’ Cassandra asked pretending she did not hear what he said although she definitely heard what he said, his eyes were dark his pupils dilated. ‘I want you on my dick.’ Cassandra smiled and went to call in the bouncer. They guy realised what she was doing, and before the bouncer got there he grabbed Cassandra by her shirt, ripping the buttons of her clothes, ‘Get Of me!!!’ she screamed, the room seem to sound like laughter, laughing at her. He managed to climb over the bar and through her to the floor, she tried to squirm out his embrace but he was so much heavier then he looked. Then the weight disappeared and she saw the blonde boy being lifted and flung to the bouncer, she could hear, Leah’s voice, ‘Cass, you okay...Take her to my office.’ She felt cool hands pick her up and carried her to the office; she could feel the lights burning on her. She could smell a rough masculine smell. That is nice she thought to herself. ‘Hey have this.’ Leah handed her a little tumbler with whiskey in it. ‘Drink it. It is on the house.’ Cassandra’s hands were shaking and she looked up knocked back the whiskey in one and she found the bottle of whiskey on the table and poured herself another one. She looked in front of her, a dark figure stood in the darkness of the office, and the lamp that was on the side of the desk only lighted his face. Leah stood staring at Cassandra and the stranger, ‘Hey guys, I am going to sort out the bar. Then I want you to go home Cass.’ Cassandra broke of her stare from the figure and turnt towards Leah. Leah grabbed a head band from the side of the cabinet and tied her long black curly hair back, out of her face, her deep brown eyes sunk into Cassandra’s mind, remembering the pain she felt when she found out about her parents. ‘Only if you are sure.’ Leah nodded and crept out of the room. Cassandra turnt her eyes back to the figure who was still standing there still, like a marble statue. ‘Thank you.’ Cassandra mumbled and she slowly got to her feet, she was a little wobbly and the figure was by Cassandra’s side helping her to find her feet. She felt the coldness on her arm, and around her waist and it sent a chill own her spine. ‘Will you excuse me I have to get home.’ Cassandra said as she moved away from the figure, she grabbed her jacket from her locker that was in the office. She slammed the door shut and slowly walked out of the office. As she reached the main door of the pub she felt the cool sea breeze upon her cheek. She sighed and pulled the collar up around her neck to prevent the breeze from attacking her body. She slowly walked over the bridge that ran over the train tracks and when she got to the other side a silver Porsche stood waiting for her. She just stared at it aimlessly and continued to walk. However she could sense the car was following her. Just outside Sainsbury’s car park she stop, the car also stopped, the passenger window came down. A bold masculine voice spoke, ‘There are bad things out there at this time of night.’ The voice answered, Cassandra scanned the area and saw no body around, it was twelve fifteen in the morning. ‘I’m sure I can handle it.’ She continued to walk on but the car slowly followed behind her, she stopped to cross the road when the driver’s door opened, and two long legs came out, a pair of black biker boots stomped on the floor as he left the car. ‘I can really see that.’ The voice said in a sarcastic manner. She chuckled, ‘Please. I drop you home and then I know you’re safe for tonight.’ His voice now a lot more sympathetic and human like. ‘I don’t take rides with strangers.’ She started to walk on, and then the voice shouted out, ‘Fine I will just have to follow you home. It won’t do much for my appearance but I am sure I can live with that.’ He chuckled and turnt back towards the driver’s side, and her voice so feminine now answered, ‘Okay. Only because I do not want to ruin your appearance.’ He climbed around the car, and opened the passengers door. She climbed in and he gently shut the door, as he climbed back into the driver’s side she asked, ‘So what is your name?’ he turnt to her and now he wasn’t paying attention to the the road, which made her feel uncomfortable, but as he looked into her eyes, she could feel that she was safe with him. She moved her eyes to look at his body. ‘My name is Chase.’ He answered then turning his attention back to the road. Her heart started to beat faster, she could feel the blood pumping round her veins. She felt herself blushing and she turnt to look out of the window, she realised she hadn’t told him where she leaves, but somehow a few seconds later he was there. ‘He you go Madame.’ He said as he got out of the car and opened the door for her, she looked into his eyes, and then asked, ‘Why are you always there when I have some kind of trouble?’ she asked looking to her house noticing the living room light was on. ‘Why are you always in trouble for me to turn up?’ she chuckled then there was an awkward silence, then a high pitched scream swept across the close and Cassandra darted her head to her house, ‘Emma.’ She whispered, she went to dart of into the house, but Chase had already got to the front door and knocked it down. He raced into the living room and on the floor laid the petite body of a young girl with short black hair, blood was split everywhere then on the sofa a little baby girl, was also smothered in blood. ‘Ava...Ava’ Cassandra shouted, ‘Cass stay outside-‘ but it was too late she saw Emma laying on the floor blood spilt everywhere, Chase was waiting for the scream but it never came she just walked over to the body, tears streaming down her face and checked the wounds, ‘He found me.’ Chase looked at her as she stepped over the body and cradle her little girl in her arms, then a a young women and two young men walked in. ‘I am sorry.’ Chase just turnt and looked blankly at the three people. ‘I have to go.’ Cassandra mumbled, she went to dart out of the room but Jason stop her, ‘Let go of me...otherwise you will die too.’ Jason turnt to look at Rosa, who nodded. ‘We know who did this. That is why we tried to warn you the other night.’ Chase stood from the body, and walked slowly to Cassandra, he held out his hand, ‘Pass Ava to me.’ He gently said is voice soft almost sadden by the lost of such a young life. ‘Take this package from me now, return her to the goddess hand, allow for her soul to float to you, and to lead you to the land of the free.’she mumbled as she did that Ava’s body being to float above her head and started to turn into dust, the group look at the dust as it disintegrated and disappear. ‘What the?’ Drake said he took a step back and Chase stared in disbelief, Cassandra’s eyes were swollen and tears began to fall faster and heavier. As she stared at Chase, she began to chant once again, ‘I banish this evil, and return the good, take away the beast mark, allow this house to be cleansed of any impurities.’ She looked round and she could feel a bright light appearing above there heads and Chase, Jason, Rosa stood back in amazement, Cassandra chuckled to herself, I banish this evil, and return the good, take away the beast mark, allow this house to be cleansed of any impurities.’ She repeated chant and the bright light turnt a a mist and flooded the room, the mist surrounded the people and Cassandra chanted one more time and for the last time. ‘I banish this evil, and return the good, take away the beast mark, allow this house to be cleansed of any impurities.’ The mist started to rise above the room, it turnt into a bright light and disappeared from where it started. Rosa stood in the room, Emma had gone her whole body just gone, the blood stains were gone from the carpet and sofa, the room look a lot cleaner, even before the blood and the bodies. ‘Holy shit...Come and lives with me. I so don’t like cleaning.’ Jason announced looking at the room; Chase was gobsmacked and could not find the words to express what he wanted to say. ‘No... Cassandra you should never of done that spell. You know the rules’ Rosa angrily answered Cassandra’s eyes were cold, and unemotional. ‘Yeh and my family being slaughtered are...any way why are you people here? Who the fucks are you?’ Cassandra roared finally taking control of her bodies and emotion, ‘Well this is awkward.’ Cassandra stood staring at the four of them, as they seemed too teamed up against Cassandra, ‘Get out of my house...all of you.’ She spoke through her teeth; she was not sure whether she was holding back the tears or whether she was so angry at what had happened. Chase went to step forward to her; he went to place a hand on her shoulder, ‘Leave me.’ ‘If you need me you can find me at number three Cooden beach.’ ‘I want need you, now Leave!’ this time she was sterner, and more blunt then the time before. It was the middle of the night about three in the morning that’s what the clock read as Cassandra stared at the hands going round the face of the clock and Chase and his little family had left she looked around the empty house and her eyes became dark and angry, ‘Enyo, I summon thee to my side to my soul. I summon thee to me.’ She roared, her hands shaking and her chest pumping erratically her breathing restless. She saw a sudden flash of light and a small pile of fog developing around her, ‘Cassie, why have you summoned me?’ a young women with blonde hair piled on top of her head, and flashing blue eyes appeared out of the fog. Staring at Cassandra, ‘Goddess...I have lost my family once again to some ghastly blood sucking creatures, I need your help to avenge my daughter’s death. Please.’ Cassandra said as she bowed her head, the goddess patted Cassandra’s head, and then she gently pulled her head up with one index finger. ‘You know I do not deal in this behaviour...however...I and the other gods speak about you a lot...and they are a problematic creatures. So all I can give you is the insight of a sixth sense which is a gift from Athena.’ He held out a little box, and she bowed as the fog re-emerged and a bright light swept across the room, ‘Thank you.’ She announced as she look up to the ceiling. She gently opened the box and in it was a small silver necklace, hanging from the chain was an owl, which was behind to spears. ‘Thank you.’ She tied the necklace around her neck and she feel to the ground. |
