A Free Verse about life and love. |
A Free Verse for week 18 of "Poetic Exploration" . I once loved the day. Free to run, free to roam. Morning chores done, I would grab my bike and be gone. What to do, the day was mine Perhaps the pickle factory or baseball with my friends Whatever I wanted, the day was mine. I once loved my job. I was proud to serve. Like my Dad before me, and his Pop too I followed in their footsteps. I married and raised a family and discovered the two didn't mix. I followed in their footsteps. I once loved a girl. I wonder why she left. Author's Notes: Free Verse is an irregular form of poetry in which the content is free of traditional rules of versification (freedom from fixed meter or rhyme). However, what separates poetry from prose is the arrangement of carefully chosen words into verses. A variety of poetic devices may be woven throughout the piece. There may be patterns of sound and repetition. In moving from line to line, the poet's main consideration is where to insert line breaks. Some ways of doing this include breaking the line where there is a natural pause or at a point of suspense for the reader. |
