Sometimes you have no choice but sacrifice everything you have because you love someone.
Sarah

It was a cold day in December. She knew it would be even colder tonight, but she didn’t really care. She didn’t have a choice anyway. Time passed by slower than ever. Every minute seemed like an hour, as if you’re dreaming and you know it but you just can’t wake up, even though you’re trying so hard. The fire she’d made this morning slowly started to give less warmth, the warmth she’d pretty much relied on all day long.

Eventually it became dark, and she knew the time had arrived to leave. For the last time. She wasn’t afraid, not anymore. Fear had left her body together with the tears leaving her eyes. It was her only and last sacrifice to him, the last sacrifice she would ever make. The first sacrifice she had ever made. Her footsteps were almost immediately erased by the cold, white snow. There would be no evidence she had left, no evidence she would be gone and no evidence she has ever lived at all.

Her eyes were just good enough to recognise where she was, the moon was hiding between a thick layer of clouds. The forest seemed kind of magical. So scary, yet so perfect. Like everything exactly belonged. Like it was all written, like she was meant to do this from the very first day. Maybe she was, maybe not. It didn’t make much sense to think about it, it was too late to make any change.  To make it change. It was silent, too silent. The only noise heard was the wind blowing through the branches of the trees. But again, the silence made perfect sense. All pieces fit together, and she would be the last.

She kept on walking for what felt like hours, and maybe were. Who knows? She didn’t. Her only sense of time was the day changing into the night. When she finally arrived she leaned against a tree to silently fall down in the snow. She realized this would be the last time she’d ever use her legs. Warm tears touched her cold, pale skin before passing her dark red lips and leave her face, falling in the snow to become frozen like everything else in its surrounding.

Finally the moon appeared. The same moment she heard a noise, a noise she’d been so familiar with. The noise she’d hated so much, yet loved with her entire heart. She knew she didn’t have much time left. Footsteps came closer and closer. She took a deep breath and slowly looked up. She recognised this eyes. The eyes she was looking through were the eyes she’d always loved, and always would love. She loved them when they came closer. She loved them when his breathing made her long, brown hair float around her shoulders. She loved them when he showed her his sharp, white teeth. She loved them when he ripped her body apart. She loved them when she felt her blood touching her skin, the same way tears had done before. She even loved them when she opened her eyes for the last time, to see his shadow disappear into the secret darkness of the forest.
