A battle of the bedtime characters.
Go to Bed!

Go to bed. It’s getting late!
Golly mom, it’s just past eight.

Sweetie dear, you need your rest.
All I need to do is get undressed.

Go brush your teeth and wash your face.
Oh look! My sneaker has no lace.

You need your sleep so you can grow.
Can I go to sleep with my radio?

I’ve checked your room and you’re all set.
I want to say ‘Good night’ to Jeanette.

I’m counting to three. You sleepyhead.
Okay. I wish I had, (Yawn) a water bed.

I do hope that this works out. Here I have a poem that can be read by two readers, an adult (solid, black) and a child ( orange). The poem can be meant for ages 8-12 with some leeway. No body knows better about trying to get a child to bed than a parent. Usually the battle is short lived, but as the child feels the need to exert his need for individuality, the battle becomes more complicated. Good luck to the parent!
