This poem is drawn from my own feelings of using the written world as an escape.
She walks her dreams,
Forever wandering blind,
Wearied by the reaching,
Longings never sated,
Reality a leash about her neck,
Fantasy confined within her mind.

Abandoned forever in the dark,
A light of enduring torture,
Lies just outside the realm of truth,
Ropes of this life her bondage,
Allow no room to breathe,
Or into that light venture.

Flash of life enriches her eyes,
Reflection of that remote light,
Her hand hides a ghostly smile
Mind holds a sad delusion,
Pages of lies fill her heart,
Real ambition has taken flight.

The dreams of many her one and only,
Star in a place where darkness swarms,
Desire, a blade that strips all meaning,
Stories strangle, consume her soul,
Dry comfort, a book, an escape,
A thin shield against the storm.

Call of sirens a cold embrace,
Spray of sea, wind fills the sails,
Tears and joy to fell a shadow,
A precious jewel,
Love amidst turmoil,
A force for good prevails.

City of spires, burnt orange sky,
Unnatural power in hands so young,
Mane of silver, flashing hooves,
Beast of the deep with breath of fear,
The hearts of many ruled by a ring,
A world of magic beneath red sun.

Spanish gold and deadly greed,
The Dragon’s blood upon the rock,
Voice of beast heard in one’s mind,
The Chosen One, a father’s love,
A vampire’s heart held by its prey,
A monster deep within the loch.

Yearning for the imagined exhilaration,
A world of beauty an emptiness to fill,
She waits for a whisper,
To be one born of prophecy,
For her story to begin,
But if she waits it never will.
