Seven years since I have seen
The lurkers, silent behind a screen
Of darkness, perpetual darkness
Flooding my room,
Allowing them to stay unseen.
I would pull my covers over my head,
Forgo air, and lay trembling on my bed
No movement and not a sound,
As they walked around my room
While I thought for sure I was dead.
It has been seven years since,
The creaking closet making me wince,
Staying awake on adrenaline,
Light driving back the dark in the room,
Safe in the light, though still tense.
One of these days the power will wain,
And they'll return to lurk again,
And when they do,
I shall gaze into my room,
And it will be seven years ago, again......
