A Secret Never Found

A SECRET NEVER FOUND          



Snivel poked the ground. “Bonk! Bang! Bump! OUCH!" Rubbing his nose, he



looked up and up and up. “The secret is up there. I’ve heard it’s near a rainbow and can’t be found.



What is the secret about? Sniff, sniff, sniff. HUMPF! Maybe they can't find it but I



will." He sang:

“HUM HI HO HO-UP THE HILL I GO I GO,



RUFF, RUFF, RUFF.”

         



Miff slept all day long. Stretching he asked, “Uh, what’s the rush?”          



"Up there is a secret that no one has found,” said Snivel.

         

Miff yawned, “So what."          



Snivel twirled around, “Don’t you care about anything? What about being useful?”          



“Ahem… cats don’t DO useful,” answered Miff.          



“GO AHEAD SLEEP YOUR LIFE AWAY! I will be famous.”          



“Did you say famous? Hmm…I believe I will join you.” Miff stood up.          



Ugh, what did I just do? Snivel hung his head.

         

Marching through flowers they sang:



“

HUM HI HO HO-UP THE HILL WE GO WE GO,



RUFF, RUFF, RUFF,



MEOW, MEOW, MEOW.”

         

Bizz darted from tree to tree. “Where, where, where?”

         

Miff said, "There’s a secret near the rainbow.”

         

Bizz flapped and circled, “Oh my, oh my, oh my.”          



“RELAX, you make me nervous,” said Miff.

         

“Oh no, oh no, oh no.”

         

Miff snapped, “NEVER MIND, when we find it we will be legends!”          



“Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy."          



“He’s going to drive me nuts,” said Miff under his breath.

         

Hopping through sunlight beams they sang:

“HUM HI HO HO-UP THE HILL WE GO WE GO,



RUFF, RUFF, RUFF,



MEOW, MEOW, MEOW,



TWEET, TWEET, TWEET.”

         

The wind turned to howling gusts. The flowers changed to dirt. In time they came to a



gorge with a swollen icy creek.          



Miff crossed his arms. "I'm NOT going.”          



“Come on. Why not?” asked Snivel.          



“I hate water. Merely thinking about it makes me sneeze. Ker chew!"          



Snivel rolled his eyes, “Fine! I will go by myself.”          



“What, what, what,” screeched Bizz. “We came for nothing?”                    



“ALL RIGHT,” barked Snivel, “Everyone on my back…on the count of three, ready? One, two,



three, gasp, wait, WHAT AM I DOING, STOP!” Sliding toward the water he said, “I mean,



goooooooooooooooooo!”          



On the other shore Snivel panted, “I’m hungry and weak. I c-c-can’t g-g-go on."

         

Scaling a tree Miff yelled, "I see a berry bush behind that rock."

         

“I’m on it,” called Bizz. Zipping back and forth he fed them both.          



"I wouldn’t have made it without you two. I’m glad we worked together,” yelped Snivel.          



At the top they met an owl who said, "Who-oo-oo-oo?"

         

"My name is Snivel. This is Miff and Bizz. We are searching for the secret."

         

The owl said, "Has no one told you that puppies dislike kittens and kittens EAT birdies?"

         

Snivel said, "NOT US! We are a team.”

         

“We wouldn’t have made it this far alone!” said Miff.          



“WE NEED EACH OTHER!" said Bizz.          



That’s when Snivel saw it. He exhaled, “THAT’S WHAT THE SECRET IS ABOUT!



LOOK THE RAINBOW!” They looked up to see a rainbow beaming.          



Miff gasped, “This could change the world!”          



Bizz sung, “We must tell our friends down the hill.”          



They turned to go and sang:

“HUM HI HO HO-DOWN THE HILL WE GO WE GO,



WE HAVE FOUND THE RAINBOW,



RUFF, RUFF, RUFF,



MEOW, MEOW, MEOW,



TWEET, TWEET, TWEET.”
