Smithy My Friend

So now I’ve seen some pictures of your life,
Your beautiful children, and your beautiful wife.
It made me remember, and this I know,
What a mistake I made, all those years ago.

You’ve had such a very wonderful full life,
So many joys, and of course, some strife.
After I left, after we had some fun;
I didn’t realize, what I had done.

I envy you, and that’s no lie.
I always knew, you’re a special guy.
I envy your life, so wonderful and great.
Mine in comparison, not as happy a fate.

You gave me a chance, to make a life,
With you, your family, and your special wife.
I turned it down, just had to go.
I never looked back, and I didn’t know.

You made your way; you got your fill,
I saw nothing wrong with my life until,
I saw that snapshot of your life after all.
It made mine seem trivial, empty and small.

I’m alone right now, and I regret,
Having walked out of your life, and can’t forget,
What a gentle soul that you have, my friend.
Your family’s just great, such a beautiful blend.

I’ll always remember those few days with you,
I just didn’t know, how much I’d rue?
I feel lucky now that you contacted me,
You are the best soul, to cross my path, you see.
