Written in the early hours after a big night out
THE CIGARETTE

He was so stressed, he started to fret,

he lost his money playing roulette.

Man, he could do with a cigarette.

That would calm him, help him forget.

He lost his dog, his favorite pet,

he couldn’t be any more upset.

He hoped he’d find him at the vet.

He could do with a cigarette.

That would calm him, help him forget.

He was cold and hungry, the man I met,

It was pouring rain, he was soaking wet.

He begged me for a cigarette.

That would calm him, help him forget.

The business man was in so much debt,

they took his mansion and his private jet.

He would love a slow cigarette.

That would calm him, help him forget.

Her boyfriend cheated with a brunette,

she was tall and thin, her name was Annette.

She saw them together in his Corvette,

there was no mistaking that silhouette.

She could do with a cigarette,

That would calm her, help her forget.

He tried to use his exercise set,

he panted and heaved, he started to sweat.

There was only won thing that he would regret,

That would be smoking his first cigarette.
