chewed up your joy
swallowed your pride
leaving you with an incurable void

Eating you from the inside
nibbled at your heart
so there was nothing to hide
not forgetting any part

I watch you lying there
I can see it feasting
Wishing it was in here
Eating at my uncontrollable beast

My hand held in yours
Cold and wet from the pain
Daily breathing has become a chore
Trying hard to remain

I sit here and watch you slip away
Closing your eyes to me
