The lure of money, temps us all.

There’s Always Tomorrow

Tina Mertz headed into the parking lot behind the Gold Spike in downtown Las Vegas. Shutting off the car she grabbed her purse and headed in the direction of the courthouse. The lure of the casinos in the distance was just too great to pass by. Checking her watch, she saw that it was only one in the afternoon. She had plenty of time before the courthouse closed, to get in a little casino action.

Walking into the center of the Freemont Experience, she eyed all the casinos surrounding her. Where would be a good place? The Four Queens was as good as any and she headed to the bar, once inside.

The bartender asked her what she wanted and she ordered a glass of wine, as she slipped a twenty-dollar bill into the bar shot machine. The wine of course, was on the house and she took a healthy swig. Tina loved her wine.

Within twenty minutes, Tina had turned the twenty into fifty. “Wow, look at me, I’m on a roll,” she thought. Handing the bartender a five-dollar bill she headed out the door, once again planning on going to the courthouse. The Freemont Casino seemed to be calling her to come on in, and she did. Another, glass of wine and another thirty-dollar win, she once again headed out. This time it was the Horseshoe Casino that dragged her through its doors.

This time her luck had run out. The Horseshoe was not as kind to her as the other casinos had been. Tina left the casino letting out a big sigh. Only ten dollars remained in her purse. Oh well, at least she had enough left for a bottle of wine. She could always pay the unpaid parking ticket tomorrow.
