Unless and until we correct ourselves we can't expect better society and nation
Bottom To Top

What you will do when you become prime minister of India! Some twenty years back, this was a very famous essay assignment of our school and college era. Other options were there but majority of us found this topic very easy to tackle as one could lucidly write some five hundred words. While penning down the plans and actions, a gush of blood used to flow with fresh vigour. We used to reform education, transportation, communication sectors. Social evil like dowry system, casteism, communalism were dealt with innocent measures. Special emphasis was given to games and sports portfolio in our imagination at school level and later on, at the college level, in order to enhance maturity we discussed terrorism and nuclear threat too.
But, now a day, can our kids write on the same topic only in five hundred words? With enhanced list of infinite problems and reduced moral values added with abundant media exposure, even the Kindergarten child today links alphabets ‘A’ for abduction, ‘B’ for bribery, ‘C’ for CBI, ‘D’ for disaster, ‘E’ for encounter, ‘F’ for floods, ‘G’ for global warming……’M’ for murder, ‘N’ for naxalism, …….’P’ for poaching……’S’ for scam (he has numerous option to name the scam), ‘T’ for train accidents etc. In this scenario, when a student in his essay, starts becoming the PM of India, he perspires simultaneously. Sweating is not only on account of regular load shedding but inner perturbations also contribute. Whom to allot portfolios of home, finance, railways and airways, who will look after food and agriculture, whom to give education, forest and environment etc? India today, seems to be suffering from myopia. People just see their immediate gain. Regionalism, casteism, communalism directs the voting pattern. Right from the distribution of seats to formation of a ministry, above factors added with money and muscle power devastates hopes of the highest of optimist. Even if he handpicks reputed persons of proven credibility to assign the task of various ministries he can’t sleep peacefully. Corrupt practices, scams, scandals and conspiracies are there to cripple men of high integrity. To add the list of trouble, our neighbouring countries are always present. And why they will not, if we remain divided others will gain. In the world’s largest democracy, the essay writer can’t trust anybody. Everybody just wants easy money, gain power and no responsibility. Earlier, we had some tainted leaders, some corrupt bureaucrats, few misguiding teachers, handful of unholy doctors, some non-conscientious judges but now the situation is just the opposite. Now, we have only handful of good leaders, honest officers, inspiring teachers, few doctors obeying the Hippocrates’ oath and some judges having clear conscience. Blacksheeps, traitors and conspirators were always there, but morality was not so rare, as it is today. In this scenario, how can a PM run a country? He needs assistance of group of ministers, secretaries, under secretaries, officers, office staffs and most significantly, the people. Every Indian should have the will power to throw away corrupt practices, shun divisive thoughts, do their duties religiously and to prosper India. We should be the change we want to see in others. If all of us are that much enlightened, our family, our neighbourhood will experience change and then our city, a state and finally our country will see the positive results. There is a need of rectification from individual level to national level. After that only we can take India to a new horizon. In absence of these to become PM of India is a nightmare even to an imaginative writer.
