The Mcgeady family has settled into the Hollyoaks Village in Chester, the family is made of parents Carl and Vickie with their 2 kids Jay and Adam they are also joined by Carl and Vickie niece Jade and Jade boyfriend Deano , after moving down from Manchester due to the son Adam and the lodger Deano lifestyle and Carl losing his job do to the credit crunch, the family has moved into their new flat which the Barnes family used to live in before they departed separately, the family have already got things go on into the family with Carl’s son 17 year old son Jay and Carl’s niece 17 year old Jade starting their last of School at Hollyoaks High , Carl has managed to get a job at drive n buy but isn’t don’t pay well and is struggling to pay the first month rent , Deano and Adam don’t do much as Deano left school at the end of 2009 and Adam left in May but both have struggled to get jobs because of their behavioral problems , Vickie is a housewife who does all of the cleaning , cooking and ironing .
Carl Story

Carl is in his new job and has been for two weeks at Drive n Buy but with the rent need paying, he soon realizes his wage from his job is not going to be enough to the pay the landlord so he asks both Adam and Deano to find jobs but they go into Cincerity and are given a trial but Cindy suddenly sacks them when she realizes they are being rude to customers , they next go into Drive N Buy where Carl works but are refused Jobs when Rhys says they have enough staff they then go into Gnosh but they suddenly have problems with their lack of concentration and Tony sacks him and when Carl comes homes Deano and Adam say they tried at every place in the village which is a lie because they only went to 3 places , Carl is left in a panic about what to do as he desperate not to see his family go out on the street , Carl goes out and a loan shark comes up to offering a loan but Carl refuses knowing that would do more harm than good , Carl is about to give up when Deano suggests claiming benefits would help save the family , Carl is stunned by the suggestion but knowing he doesn’t have any other options he contacts them when his family have gone out to get take out from Relish , a few days later the mail comes and Carl’s quickly grabs the mail and receives the letter from the benefits and is happy to be receiving £400 a month which will help save the family and pays the month rent , but then just 24 hours after he puts the letter from the benefits into the draw , Jade coming from school looks into the draw for her keys but finds the letter and confronts him with it knowing he has a job and is committing benefit fraud but instead of telling Vickie she looks at the letter and realizes there is still £200 left of it and demands it to keep her quiet , Carl agrees to it knowing he could be sent to prison if this gets to the cops , with the cash Jade spends it all she first takes boyfriend Deano for a meal at Gnosh costing £100 then goes to Cincerity and buys some new shoes and a dress for her 18th party next Monday which comes to £100 , Vickie returns home and is stunned when she sees Jade with new shoes and new dress and asks where she got the money from when they are struggling financially as a family , Jade lies to begin with but admits Carl gave her £200 , Vickie realizes it doesn’t make sense as Carl is struggling to pay the bills so shouldn’t be giving out £200 but is further rocked when Jade reveals Carl has been claiming benefits , Vickie orders Jade out of the flat because she wants to confront Carl with no one around , Carl comes home from drive n buy and is stunned that Vickie knows about his benefits and that Jade has told her , a desperate Carl reveals that he needed the money for the bills as he not getting enough money to pay the bills and also says it was Deano idea to benefit fraud , Vickie agrees not to call the cops but Carl is arrested when Carmel who has just been made a police officer hears their argument and asks for back up to take him to the station , at the station Carl admits everything and admits he is doing it to keep his family under a roof but doesn’t imply Deano for giving him the idea as he knows he shouldn’t done it , in court Carl pleads guilty and The Judge decides that due to his guilty plea and the reasons he did it he instead sent him to pay it all back and to be banned from benefits for 5 years and all 4 month suspended prison sentence
