Some times life changes your perception of what is beautiful and what is perfect.
Two Vases

Two vases standing side by side.
Gentle samples
of Asian design.
Together, both are
perfectly matched.
But earthquake hits
up-heaving shelves.
And gravity,
with sticky fingers,
throws one to the floor.
Now shattered.
Building it again,
using cement sutures,
borrowing from other pieces.
A bit of bottle.
A marble.
Green glass.
A shard of
Grandma’s China.
A new vase.
Mirroring no other,
no template to follow,
the end result unknown.
Mourning the perfect vase,
but in its place
rises something new.
A sweet Frankenstein creation.
The way it holds the light
reflects its lone design,
and begs the question –
which is more beautiful?
