My Alter Ego

My soul splits in two like a dividing cell,

One part, the person I show to others,

Brave, loving, fearless,

This is the person I try to be,

The qualities I hope to establish in the real me,

The second part, the person I hide,

The part of me I barely manage to keep alive,

Alone, quiet, shy, honest, scared,

Afraid to be loved,

With love that is so pure and untarnished,

The love everyone craves, but few receive,

I step back from it all to take a look at my two alter egos.

One is a lie; the second is the truth,

I must choose who I wish to be,

The piece of me I show,

Or the fragment of me unseen,

My Alter Ego.
