A rhyming poem with expression of emotion. |
Through the morning mist I see Tall and straight, my favourite tree Spreading limbs that reach so high Leaf filled branches fill the sky In youth I climbed your lofty heights Dreaming wondrous fancy flights Like eagles soaring through the air I dreamed my dreams and tarried there I tilled the soil where now you stand I gathered crops from that good land Throughout the years our friendship grew I always could depend on you Through good times, bad times, joy and tears Storms we've weathered through the years In spring your buds gave birth with joy Producing leaves I would enjoy In summer you provided shade Where I would sip my lemonade Your leaves turned crimson in the fall Then followed soon the wild goose call In winter you were deep in sleep While windblown snowflakes drifted deep You listened to my tales of woe Did comfort me when I was low Your patience never let me down When worry caused my brow to frown Was you who soothed my boiling rage A wise and witty funny sage While you were captive to your roots My feet wore out a lot of boots My current pair a thoughtful gift Procured with love and not with thrift When cancer struck I suffered pain But lived to visit you again You gave me strength to carry on To face tomorrows unknown dawn Surely God who made the trees Birds and flowers and honey bees Has planted seeds in heaven's soil Reward for man's eternal toil When I arrive at heaven's gate And my poor life am asked to rate I will express my hope to see Some friends of yours for eternity Now my days are near their end Goodbye to you my faithful friend |
