Chapter 2 of Buttercup Peach |
Rocks - Chapter 2 It was early. Too early in fact. My family isn’t the wealthiest so we have one car to share between my mom, her boyfriend, and myself. It was time to drop her boyfriend off at his job, working at the county jail. We all walked in as one little messed up family down the long cell halls to his small desk in the corner. As I was passing the cells I would glance over, afraid of what I might see. Old smelly men with grease stains on their beer bellies and wife beaters were seated on the cold stone benches. My mother’s boyfriend, Tim, was in charge of the overnights and the guys who were still on trials and possibly bail outs. I got to the cell right before Tim’s desk and two young boys were seated in there, one passed out on the floor in the back and one up against the bars. “Please! I’m telling you it was and honest mistake. I thought it was my dad’s car.” I was begging to the middle aged man seated at the desk twirling my cell key. “So that’s why you broke the window, eh?” The middle aged man shot back at me. I decided to take my seat with a sigh. “Get up Jack, you’ve been sleeping for like seven hours.” “What else is there to do in this shitty cell?” Jack had a point. Our cell was gray and empty with two bunk beds stripped of sheets and two baby pillows. The delicate girl was back. She was talking to the guy who held my key too! They must have been friends; maybe it was her dad. I decided to give this one more fighting try. “Sir, I promise you it won’t happen again. And in all honestly, that Mercedes is a friend of mine’s. He wouldn’t have said anything there was just that old lady watching who called the cops!” The girl looked at me, and I froze. She talked to the man for a few more minutes and suddenly the most remarkable thing happened. Jack and I were free. I had no idea how this happened, but jack took off in his dad’s beat up car in fear of getting thrown back in, and the girl and I went on a walk as her family left for somewhere. “How’d you get me out? And thank you..” I was awkward when I spoke to her. She was one hundred times more beautiful than before. I was amazed. “Tim is my mother’s boyfriend. And I saw that look in your eyes. It was really your friend’s car, wasn’t it?” “Yeah it was and he would have been pissed, but certainly not framed me.” She then gave me a weird look, which made me nervous. “Why’d you even do that? That wasn’t a very smart idea.” “I had to prove to my friend Jack of something. It’s nothing really; I just don’t need anymore jail time on my hands. But tell me about you, you seem really; I don’t know. Pure.” She giggled a bit, and I could only feel my mood go softer. There was something about her that made me want to explore the world around me and just take my time with her. “I’m not pure. I have my own past too, but the main thing that’s keeping me away from all my troubles is my brother, Pj.” She told me how her brother suffered form autism and how he was the light inside her dark life. I didn’t have much to say about it though, because my soft side needs some working on. She really didn’t seem to mind my short responses though; she was so caught up in her grace, softly smiling at every short response I gave her. Time rolled on as we walked down road after road rounding ten blocks. It was dark now but I had nowhere to go, and even though she must have, she left that behind her. After our long walk, we finally sat down on the rocks by the beach I was previously at. I laughed at the fact that I still hadn’t known his name and we’ve talked for at least three hours. “I’m Lily by the way “ We both laughed as the realization hit us, and he turned a light shade of red. His face was so tough looking, with a scar slightly above his eyebrow from god knows what. He had worn blue eyes, not the shade of an ocean, but more of a dark blue. Something I’ve never really seen before, on anyone in fact. He was pretty tan but not to the point where he didn’t look American or orange. His hair was black and straight, hanging slightly over his eyes on one side. He was actually quite handsome, especially when he smiled with his bright white teeth. “I’m Jayden. Sorry I forgot to ask your name, I’m not really the most well mannered person as you can tell.” “What makes you say that?” I tilted my head at his self-confidence. It appeared from a far that this guy had no problem with the ladies but hearing the way he talked about himself, someone might beg to differ. “That I can tell you later.” He smirked a somewhat devilish grin, and with the most shocking sudden act of confidence he threw off his shirt and bolted towards the ocean. He revealed a nicely in shape figure, and his abs were just as tan as his face; yet you can still tell it was from working in the sun or something along those lines. He didn’t seem like the type to lay out and tan anyway. I began to laugh and slowly followed him down to the water where he dove in and swam under water. “What are you doing?!” I laughed as I asked, intrigued by his adventurous side. “Living.” He replied with yet another short response, and I liked that about him. It left so much mystery with his presence and maybe he’d have to be pried open, but if there was one thing I could tell already, it was that he was worth the time to pull him open. Though it seemed a bit of a great challenge. |
