The City by the Lake

                                      The City by the Lake



                                  Clouds hang softly white

                    over cool shades of green gray and blue.

              Towers of steel glass and concrete interrupt the view.



                            The city is alive and vibrant.

      Automobiles and busses speed along then wait in unrhythmic time.

                A cacophony of sound emanates from vehicles and

            worldwide languages that are heard on every sidewalk.



        Neon lights and mannequins imprisoned behind glass enclosures

                            encourage passersby to enter.



                  Sophisticated women in silks and fancy shoes

            pass by shabbily dressed panhandlers looking for a dollar.
