The Lonely Road

I set out on a new path today,
one with familiar faces
but with jagged rocks and stones.
I found myself alone
in the quiet winter wind,
Its chill was deafening to my ears,
and numb on my face…
Silence followed me into
the forest as I tripped,
scraping my hands on tree bark
and slamming my face
against the solid earth.
