Dedicated to all the canines who loved us so well.R.I.P. Charlie, Brandon, Lady.
In a fraction of my lifespan,
about seven to one,
you showed me how to live,
and joyfully greet each sun.

Profound truths in canine speak,
you have taught me well.
Selflessly loving me more,
much more than you could tell.

In you I learned the brevity of life,
and to savor all it's natural joys,
reflected in the smiles and laughs,
of it's ageless girls and boys.

The ruined furniture and rugs,
eaten papers and photos,
did not diminish our bond.
You shook off discipline with furry shrugs,
giving me a cold but forgiving nose,
I miss your chaos since your gone.

I miss the wet-dog, earthy smell,
that clung to you and filled my nose.
Even though your breath smelled like hell,
and you chewed up all my pantyhose.

But you'd commiserate,
hurts to my heart and pride.
coming to rest by who you loved best,
placing a trinket or treat by my side.

I needed no bribes or treats,
for companionship you'd freely share.
You knew me so well, you always could tell,
when I needed a hug that was full of hair.

Wishing I could be giving,
even more years like we've had.
For now just when,
I understood my best friend,
You're done with living,
the wagging tail is still,
and I am sad.

Thank you for all the face licks,
you sweetly gave me "just because".
The canine clock has swiftly ticked,
Goodbye Mr. Four Paws.
