Inspired by Pachebel's Canon in D major. I wrote this listening to it.
The Waltz

Here I am standing and my heart
Beating as we both wait for it
Hear it? The strings finally play.

The cue is given. All is set.
The moment begins. The dance starts.
Now dance with me and make me sway.

Take my hand and take the lead and
Make me surrender to your hold
Before the passion fades away.

You pull my body close to yours.
I can’t help but follow your lead.
Into the dance take me away.

You slide your hands sensuously
Over my waist. The waltz begins
The notes begin to quicken their pace.

Don’t turn your eyes away from mine
They are the windows of our souls
How long will this moment stay?

Into familiar arms I spin
But dear moments never last long
And soon they leave without a trace

Now and then we lose the beat but
Again we will waltz together.
Again I look into your gaze

You make my body laugh and cry
So make me safe and make me yours
We shall go blissfully astray

Spin me faster, lift me higher,
Be my pleasure, my hope, my song.
Give me warmth in your embrace
